I'm a wee bit late updating you all on what was a very tough weekend in Glasgow for my first training with the Scottish Idevelop program. This is mostly as it has taken me over 2 days to fully recover including a couple of 8 pm bedtimes!! But i had a great time.
It was a very challenging couple of days. We kicked it off with a solid 4 hour road ride on Saturday morning, which included a few time trial efforts. My legs were all ready pretty tired that day and really needed waking up as I had already had a big week catching up on road miles after 5 weeks on the turbo with injury! After we came back along quite a hilly route with some steep climbs. Once we got back we had a workshop with the Scottish Institute of Sport. He was teaching us about performance lifestyle and telling us about the importance of committing everything to cycling, preparing for racing and training. And your attitude towards the cycling lifestyle that makes you a champion.
On Sunday, we were out early again but this time for a 3 hour ride! We did more time trial efforts once we got out of Glasgow and although the wind was worse and we had already had a tough day before hand, my legs went better and i felt much stronger and more in control of my effort. Soon when we returned to base, we jumped on the track and did 4 hours practising Madison skills and had a go at the elimination race near the end. Unfortunately, my wrist suffered a bit over the weekend, as the constant speeding up, slamming on breaks and hitting pot holes every few seconds took a bit of a toll on it. It became very painful and uncomfortable so i didn't get to take part in the Madison race and played it safe instead. It is feeling much better today though after a few days rest and i'm confident it will fully recover soon! Just need to try and be patient with it.
It was a big weekend, but was delighted to manage the back to back days of hard training and find the strength coming to my legs. It's a great group of riders to be in with, who all encourage each other and help each other get the best out of ourselves. We shared a lot of laughs and tough moments together and i'm looking forward to the next trips down there for many more adventures on the program! It's certainly getting me ready for an even longer, harder racing season! :)
Thanks for reading! Hope you found my first weekend on the Scottish development program as exciting as i did ;-)
